How far away is Shawnigan Lake?
Shawnigan Lake is a 5 minute drive (10-15 minutes by bicycle). The lake offers swimming, fishing and boating. The village of Shawnigan Lake offers groceries, gas, restaurants, liquor and shops.
What is the river like?
The water is crystal clear and you will see lots of natural life in and near the river, such as Steelhead Trout, frogs, crayfish, minks, otters, eagles and many other birds. The riverbank is accessible by trail and the terrain is varied. The property borders a variety of river features such as beautiful swimming potholes, shallow rocky beaches, rapids and the stunning "Pikes Pool" - a wide section of the river very inviting for viewing and swimming.
Can we bring and prepare our own meals?
Yes. A continental breakfast welcoming basket is provided on your arrival. There is a full kitchen which includes a fridge/freezer, microwave and a barbeque on the deck.
What about children?
Children will really enjoy their vacation here.
The cabin boasts a newly renovated and very funky loft, which provides extra space for sleeping, watching movies, doing puzzles or just hanging out. The cabin is surrounded by an expanse of flat lawn which is perfect for children to play, run and ride bikes. There is also a large play structure and swings which our younger guests are welcome to use. Children can explore the wonderful forest trails and maybe even locate a leprechaun house in a tree. Some favorite activities of the nature loving child are crayfishing and frog hunting down at the riverbank.
Well mannered dogs may also be welcome guests, on prior approval. There are no roads nearby, so dogs can safely roam and our furry guests always love the swimming hole.
Guests bringing children and/or approved dogs should note that the Koksilah River Cabin shares property with the Main House which is a family residence including dogs, cats and small children. Children and dogs must be supervised at all times to ensure a safe and happy vacation for everyone.
Should I bring my bike?
Yes! There are many excellent places to bike, and if you have a mountain/all-terrain bike, there are many more. The logging roads provide seemingly endless access to beautiful wilderness areas. The TransCanada Trail and Koksilah River Provincial Pare are moments away. There is a 26km loop-route around Shawnigan Lake. There are countless destinations worth biking to in the Cowichan Valley. A bike would definitely be a good item to bring.
How do I book a Massage/Spa Treatment?
Spa and massage services can be provided by Tranquil Touch and outlined in the attached brochure. It is recommended that you book your treatment at the time of booking your cabin accommodation to ensure availability.
